New AAIBS Chair and Standing Committee elected

A new Standing Committee and Chair was elected following the Annual General Meeting held at the 19th Annual AAIBS Conference at Monte Sant Angelo Conference in April 2008.

The new Chair is Chris Rebbeck, MYP Co-ordinator at Blackwood High School, Adelaide. 

Briony Morath (DP) from MLC School, Sydney, continues as Secretary of the Association, with Chris Taylor (DP) of St Peter’s College, Adelaide taking over as Treasurer from Jeff Burn who has retired from Standing Committee.  Antony Mayrhofer (DP) of St Paul’s Grammar School, Sydney, moves into the role of immediate past Chair.

Who is AAIBS?

Whois The AAIBS was established specifically to assist schools in Australasia, providing a network of professional support, information and service. Schools new to the IB programme will find such assistance particularly useful.

The Association also organises an annual conference in conjunction with workshops run by IBAP, and produces a variety of support materials. 

The AAIBS Standing Committee is committed, amongst other goals, to represent and support the various IB groups and networks across Australasia. There are now many groups in Australasia and it is important that these networks have a united voice in lobbying with Educational Authorities, Tertiary Admissions Centres, Universities and the IB and AAIBS wants to work with an support these IB school networks.

What is the IB?

Ib The International Baccalaureate (IB) aims to develop inquiring, and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. The IB offers high quality programmes of international education to a worldwide community of schools.

The three IB programmes for students aged 3 to 19 help develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. There are more than 599,000 IB students at 2,226 schools in 125 countries.

Join

AAIBS runs an annual conference, provides certificates and web presence for member schools at www.aaibs.org and will extend this to local associations of member schools as part of the annual membership fee. Member schools can claim up to three $100 discounts for staff that are registered for the Annual Conference.


Annual membership fees are:

  • Full membership for Authorised schools is $550.00 (GST inclusive)
  • Associate Membership for recognised Implementing or candidate schools is $220.00 (GST inclusive)
  • Partner Membership (for schools in an IB recognised partnership) $150.00 (GST inclusive)
